Killed his wife, bought a freezer, failed to commit suicide and called the police
The indictment of the No. 1 Branch of the Shanghai Municipal People's Procuratorate shows that after Gao and the victim Xiaoting got married in 2015, in order to repay the debt owed due to the loss of stock trading, they borrowed high-interest loans from a number of online lending institutions and relatives and friends.
At around 8 a.m. on March 2, 2022, Gao went to the kitchen and picked up a fruit knife and stabbed Xiaoting's neck. While Xiaoting was struggling and calling for help, he continued to stab Xiaoting's left and right necks with the knife All caused his death on the spot.
After identification, Xiaoting died of hemorrhagic shock caused by the rupture of the left carotid artery and vein caused by being stabbed in the neck with a sharp instrument by others.
"Gao stabbed my sister more than 30 times in a row in the bathroom, and the knife was fatal," Xiaoting's sister, Ms. Li, told China News Weekly. One year after the incident, the family still can't believe that Gao will get along day and night. 10 years of Pillowman Killing.
According to Gao's confession, Xiaoting pleaded with him when she continued to stab him for the second time. He said in an interview on Shanghai TV's "Case Focus" program, "She (wife Xiaoting) told me, did our relationship of more than ten years come about in exchange for this result? She told me to think about my parents."
His wife's begging did not wake Gao Mou, and he still killed him. Subsequently, Gao stole tens of thousands of yuan from Xiaoting's WeChat, bank cards and credit cards, and used Xiaoting's Huabei account to buy a freezer worth 700 yuan. He pretended to be Xiaoting and chatted with colleagues and relatives, and took sick leave to cover up the fact that he was dead.

"At about 8 o'clock, I started to transfer money with my sister's mobile phone at 8:45", Ms. Li said. Back to 84 disinfectant and air freshener.
According to the indictment, the next morning, after the freezer arrived, Gao failed to move the body into the freezer. Subsequently, he committed suicide by drinking 84 disinfectant, cutting his wrists, arms, and neck, all of which failed. At about 18 o'clock that night, Gao called the police, saying that he and his wife committed suicide at home.
"When he called the police, he said that he failed to commit suicide in the place of residence, and his wife had committed suicide. He said he was not feeling well and needed the police to come to the scene to deal with it. By the way, he asked 110 to call 120." Ms. Li said that when Gao called the police He lied, and during the interrogation that night, he changed his words and said that he had killed his wife. In addition, they also suspect that Gao may have committed suicide in fear of crime.
Ms. Li also mentioned that they found from the transcripts that Gao had mentioned that he had seen the "freezer case" that happened in Shanghai a few years ago, so they suspected that it was a copycat crime. "He also bought shower curtains, raincoats, rain boots, etc. If he wanted to die with his wife, there was no need to hide the body, clean up the scene, and cover up the crime."
It is noteworthy that the family members later learned that Xiaoting was lying on the ground after being stabbed in an artery, and when she still had the strength to slowly raise her hand, Gao had already started to wash the blood with a shower head and clean up the scene, "Not only was he not afraid, It’s unbelievable how calm and calm he is.”
Gao's calmness also surprised the prosecutor. During several arraignments, his thinking was coherent and his statements were calm. "Although he also showed an attitude of regret for killing his wife, he did not show a great degree of regret," said a prosecutor.
On March 4, 2022, Gao was criminally detained by the Pudong Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau on suspicion of intentional homicide; on March 18, with the approval of the Shanghai Pudong New Area People's Procuratorate, Gao was arrested.
On July 18, 2022, after the Shanghai public security investigation ended, Gao was transferred to the Pudong New Area People's Procuratorate of Shanghai for review and prosecution on suspicion of intentional homicide, and was sent to the First Branch of the Shanghai People's Procuratorate for review on August 11, 2022. sue.
On April 12 this year, one year after the incident, Gao's wife-killing case was held in the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court.
Speculating in stocks, buying lottery tickets, and owed millions
According to Gao’s confession, the motive for the murder was that on the night of March 1, his wife Xiaoting checked her mobile phone and found that he had applied for an IOU for a loan of 80,000 yuan on February 24, and the two had a dispute.
The next morning, Xiaoting mentioned the matter again, "I was in a hurry to go to work, (I got angry when I heard it), and said something excited...While arguing, I walked around and saw the fruit knife on the condiment shelf in the kitchen. , I took it over..."
China News Weekly learned that before the murder, Gao's economic situation had already deteriorated and he owed a large amount of foreign debt. In 2012, Gao and Xiaoting met through someone's introduction and got married three years later. At that time, his parents bought a 500,000 house with a loan as a wedding house. Because it was a serviced apartment, Gao was dissatisfied with it, thinking that there was not much room for appreciation and it was far away from the unit, so he sold it without telling his wife the next year and invested all the money in the stock market.

After the first stock made money, Gao Mou tasted the sweetness, but as the market weakened, his money was quickly locked up. Later, he borrowed more than 200,000 yuan through private usury and multiple loan platforms, and continued to increase his position.
Gao Mou said in an interview, "You earn less and you lose more, just like the so-called killing pig...but I want to invest in it to cover a position, maybe I can earn it back later."
Since the husband and wife implemented the AA system financially, Gao did not disclose to his wife about his stock speculation. It was not until 2019, after he lost his principal and owed millions of yuan, that he told the truth, hoping to get his forgiveness and help.
The loan records provided by Ms. Li show that from November 2018 to September 2019, there were more than 20 loan records in Gao, with a loan amount of more than 800,000 yuan and a total repayment of nearly 1.06 million yuan.
"At that time, Gao said he was going to commit suicide by jumping off a building, and he wrote a letter of guarantee and a repayment plan and knelt down to apologize. My sister even came to us, hoping that we could borrow money to help him tide over the difficulties." Ms. Li said that she had persuaded the two to divorce, but After seeing Gao's sincere attitude of repentance, Xiaoting chose to forgive. Therefore, relatives also borrowed money, hoping to help Gao tide over the difficulties.
According to the planned repayment schedule, Gao's debts were originally repaid in 2022, and there were no contradictions in the lives of the husband and wife, and everything was developing in a good direction. But in fact, Gao did not stop there, and was still speculating in stocks and buying lottery tickets. Before the incident, his debts swelled to about 1 million yuan again.
Gao's colleagues revealed that he borrowed six to seven hundred thousand yuan from his colleagues in the unit alone, and some people had as little as tens of thousands of yuan and as many as 200,000 yuan.
In February 2022, another colleague used a personal guarantee to help Gao borrow 80,000 yuan from the loan platform. Before the incident, after Xiaoting discovered the money, Gao still lied that he had guaranteed the loan for a colleague.
Gao claimed that his wife checked his mobile phone and found a problem, which led to a quarrel between the two, which then escalated into a murder case. However, this statement has not been recognized by Xiaoting's family.
According to the evidence collected afterwards, Ms. Li found that on the night of March 1 before the incident, Xiaoting had been dealing with work and interacting in the work group, and did not go to rest until the early morning of the next day. The next morning, according to the normal time, Xiaoting usually got up at 7 o'clock in the morning to wash up, and went to work at 8 o'clock in the morning, while Gao Mou would go out before 7:30.
"My sister has to go to work in the morning. Normally, the two of you don't have much communication. Why did he have to wait until Xiaoting went out the next morning to kill the man?"
Ms. Li guessed that Gao committed the crime premeditatedly, but this ultimately needs to be verified by the court. "However, we later learned that the content of the confession mentioned that on March 1, Gao remembered the plot of the previous case of murdering his wife and hiding his body in Shanghai."
In addition, after the incident, the family members also found that the two cats raised by Gao and Xiaoting were missing. "We suspected that he might have released or disposed of the cat in advance because he was worried that the cat was stained with blood, but he kept saying in court that he didn't know," Ms. Li added.
Family members say they don't agree to surrender
In this case, the procuratorate believed that the defendant Gao deliberately and illegally deprived others of their lives, resulting in Xiaoting's death. His behavior has violated the provisions of Article 232 of the "Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China". The facts of the crime are clear and the evidence is reliable and sufficient. Criminal responsibility should be investigated for the crime of intentional homicide.
Xiaoting's family members also mentioned in the submission that Gao wanted to rebuild his social status and personality by getting rich overnight, but he kept failing in stock trading, losing the lottery every time, and a large amount of foreign debt strengthened his rebellious psychology. . "The murder of his wife in Shanghai also added to his anti-social psychological shadow, which eventually turned into murder," Ms. Li said.
Ms. Li mentioned that when Gao was arrested, he did not confess that he had stolen her bank card and WeChat money after killing Xiaoting. During the trial of the first instance, the public prosecutor repeatedly questioned him before he admitted the matter, and said that there was a debt to be repaid that day. After the incident, Xiaoting's ID card was lost, and she suspected that Gao might have used it for a mortgage.
In addition, the family members did not agree with Gao's claim that he had surrendered himself. Ms. Li said that although Gao called the police on the second day after the incident, he did not truthfully confess after arriving at the case. In this regard, the judge will re-affirm in the collegial panel.
The case was heard for more than 2 hours, but the verdict was not pronounced in court.
Ms. Li said that they hope that the suspect Gao will be sentenced to death and executed immediately. "This is his wife who helped him pay back the money. She doesn't like her well and is still making excuses to mitigate the crime. We only hope for a fair verdict."
In response to this case, Zhao Liangshan, a senior partner of Shaanxi Hengda Law Firm and a well-known criminal defense lawyer, said that two conditions must be met for surrendering, one is to voluntarily surrender, and the other is to truthfully confess one's crimes. In this case, although Gao took the initiative to report to the police, he reported to the police on the grounds of suicide. At first, he did not truthfully confess his crime. conduct, therefore does not constitute surrender.
Zhao Liangshan also mentioned that the day before Gao killed his wife, he remembered the case of Zhu Xiaodong killing his wife and hiding his body in 2016. His series of behaviors were similar to the case of Zhu Xiaodong killing his wife and hiding his body. In addition, since the victim fell to the ground after being stabbed and was able to lift his arms, Gao began to deal with the scene without showing panic. He was so strong in psychology and did not rescue him in time, which reflected from the side that Gao had premeditated murder possibility.
"After Gao killed his wife, he bought a freezer and tried to hide his body to cover up his criminal behavior, which showed that the circumstances were bad, and could be used as evidence for a severe sentence for Gao," said Zhao Liangshan. Based on the current case, Gao's method of killing his wife is extremely cruel and bad in nature, and it is extremely harmful to society. It is the general trend for Gao to be sentenced to death and executed immediately.
Zhao Liangshan also mentioned that under the new media environment, criminal imitation is on the rise. Some new media expose the criminal details of some special criminal cases, especially the means and process of criminals, which will inevitably be imitated by some criminals. But so far there is no clear law stipulating the scale and boundaries of media exposure of case details, so that the details of the case are released to the public, causing others to imitate. How to reduce imitation crimes still needs to be formulated and perfected.
